Lightning Strikes My Tip and My Heart in New Cars 3 Trailer
Woah, baby. The folks over at Disney/Pixar gave us another little taste of Lightning McQueen's next chapter. I emphasize Lightning McQueen because Cars 2 was just a Mater movie, and there is only so much Larry the Cable Guy you can put into a movie before it's produced by Tyler Perry or goes straight to DVD. Git'Er Done!
What we have here in this "Extended Sneak Peak" is a combination of Rocky III, Talladega Nights and Toy Story 3. Lightning was on top for most/all of his career, just like Ricky Bobby, until what appears to be a devastating crash, also like Ricky Bobby. As an aging veteran in the sport he's going to have to overcome his own demons to take out the cocky young speedster on the raceway. *Cough cough* Rocky and Clubber Lang. Where it further mirrors Balboa's resurgence is that Burgess Meredith's beloved, hard-nosed trainer Mickey died right before Rocky fell to Clubber Lang. Paul Newman, the voice actor for Doc Hudson in Cars, passed away in 2008. Not much is known on whether Hudson will make an appearance with someone else voicing the character, maybe in some sort of Ben Kenobi talking to Luke from beyond type of deal, but based on the introduction of Cristela Alonzo's Cruz Ramirez, who appears to be like Amy Adams' character in Ricky Bobby, it is safe to say that Doc probably can't start in this one and was sent to where cars go to die-- that thing they use in mob movies to crush cars with dead people in it.
With Doc gone and the Amy Adams car in, Lightning will fuel up and surge a comeback like no other to defeat Jackson Storm, voiced by Armie Hammer. Good on the writers for giving him such a douchebag name. Easier to not like him. The only question is whether Storm goes the Clubber Lang route or the Sacha Baron Cohen route after the loss (I'm expecting McQueen to win the final race). If i had to guess I would say we find out that he is a huge fan and is more like Borat's guy. That would tie into Storm being just like Lightning was in Cars, a cocky dick who's really not that bad of a guy. Lightning is the new Doc. Throw in some trademark Pixar feels and Toy Story 3 level nostalgia with a twist, and we have ourselves a movie folks. A damn good one.
One Last Thing: Owen Wilson is the voice of Lightning McQueen. I know we all know this. It's just hilarious. "Woaaaw I'm a talking car." How does Vince Vaughn not AT LEAST have a voicing cameo. One of the pit crew guys or something. "Oh you want me to put the tires on. Oh its just. Y'know I was going to make us a few drinks. Put on some music, dim the lighting, Have a good time. But hey if you want me to put the tires on, I'll put the tires on. Let's do this. Come on. I'm psyched. After this we'll hit up a wedding and get a job at car Google. We're halfway there we already drive ourselves. Am I right? Haahahehe"
That was Vince Vaughn as a pit crew car. Watch the trailer for yourself below.
