I Have Finally Bought In To The 2016 Mets
It took longer than I would've hoped but I finally have faith in the New York Mets. As a die hard Mets fan I feel that its impossible to have complete faith in the Mets because of their tragic history of luck. From a young age, us Mets' fans are installed with the unhealthy burden of reality. Although at times it maybe a positive asset in life, for the most part it sucks. But with that being said, I have the most confidence I CAN have in these "misfit Mets" (Shout out to my roommate Joe Labuz for coming up with that nickname). This revelation came to through a tweet and a three game series in Miami.
First, the tweet that opened my eyes:
This tweet has so much truth to it, that it almost caused me to fall to one knee and say a prayer. First off, John Maine was garbage. Also he was not a good person. I went "Dog Day at Shea," in 2006. It was a great time, a bunch of dogs pooping all over the place. Simply magical. We brought my bulldog, Shea (R.I.P), on the field and John Maine fell in love with him. I told him he pitched a great game the night before and he completely ignored me. I was a broken 10-year old boy with a dog leash in his hand. Secondly, Oliver Perez was even more trash. I swear on MY LIFE, that I saw this man drinking Wild Turkey in the bullpen. Although that is an absolute baller move, a guy like Perez should not have been doing that. That's enough to have no faith in these guys, and i haven't even gotten into the stats. John Maine was 6-5 with 3.60 ERA with 15 HR's in 16 games. Garbage. Perez was even worse. Like astronomically worse. Perez was 3-13 with 6.63 ERA even though he was able average 8 K's per 9 innings.
Gsellman and Lugo are two young guys basically thrown into a pennant race and they've both been able to hold their own. Gsellman is 3-2 with a 2.56 ERA and Lugo is 5-2 with a 2.67 ERA. Also Gsellman has great hair and Lugo is able to succeed even with the first name Seth. Based on that alone, I'm giving the ball to Lugo and Gsellman over Maine and Perez.
Then finally, God threw himself into the mix. I'm not a religious guy in the slightest, but after these past three games in Miami you honestly gotta believe. Jose Fernandez tragically dies and the Mets play the Marlins the next day. The Marlins put on a beautiful tribute to Fernandez and they smacked the Mets. The Mets took the beating with grace and class, and the bats catch fire the next game. I personally believe that there is NO DOUBT that Jose Fernandez is pulling for the Mets in heaven. Him and Gary Carter are having a catch up there, he shared some stories about '86 and now Fernandez is pulling for us. He installed hits into Granderson and Buce's bats and now the Mets are on fire. I'll leave with this, If the Mets win the Wild Card game and beat the Cubs, we win the whole thing. Do not let the New York Mets get hot.
